2012 Chevrolet Sonic | Review, Interior, Exterior, Price – As an all new small car model, the Chevrolet Sonic was first introduced for the 2012 model year. While it follows in the tracks of the Chevrolet Aveo, and the Chevrolet (Geo) Metro and Sprint before it, the Sonic is not only larger and heavier than those models, but more substantial in many respects. And its creep up a half size leaves room for a new, smaller Chevrolet Spark minicompact that will arrive for 2013.
It’s no surprise that Chevrolet opted to rename the Aveo, which had ended up being a favorite of bargain hunting rental car companies and fleet managers, but maligned for its lackluster safety ratings, unimpressive fuel economy, and poor resale value.
It’s not just a question of what a car does for you it’s also how it makes you feel. Sonic is designed to make you feel totally connected with the driving experience. The dual cockpit design sets a sporty tone, while the instrumentation reflects the hottest motorcycle designs. You can take the Sonic experience to an even higher level with the heated front bucket seats with perforated leatherette surfaces and leather wrapped steering wheel on LTZ models.
Things get even more appealing when you peek under the hood. A 1.8-liter inline-4 produces a healthy 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, while the even more desirable turbocharged 1.4-liter matches this horsepower and increases torque to a remarkably robust 148 lb-ft. The Sonic handles with engaging responsiveness and fuel economy is competitive, with the turbocharged engine getting an estimated 40 mpg on the highway. Perhaps most importantly for those who are downsizing from something larger, the Sonic feels as if it’s much bigger and more substantial from behind the wheel.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic Interior :
2012 Chevrolet Sonic Interior. – The Sonic’s industrial-theme cabin is handsome to look at, with a thoroughly modern feel. Materials quality is respectable, though there are some cheap-looking plastics in evidence. Controls are logically clustered and clearly labeled, making it easy to find one’s way around the center stack. Factory-installed navigation isn’t offered, but given the wide range of inexpensive portable and handheld nav systems on the market, we don’t see this omission being a problem for most shoppers.
Inside, the Sonic feels far sportier than you might expect for such an affordable vehicle. The Aveo’s somewhat cockpit-like instrument panel wraps around to the doors and curves downward into a center console area, enveloping the front seat occupants. There’s a new three-spoke steering-wheel design, borrowed from other recently redesigned Chevrolet models, and the V-shaped center stack very efficiently and attractively consolidates audio and climate controls. Front and center for the driver is an all-new instrument cluster, with a digital speedometer and trip meter grouped together, yet an analog tachometer, which altogether helps cement that sporty feel. While materials aren’t quite on par with larger, more expensive vehicles, they’re better than more budget-priced cars, and you’ll find details like contrast stitching for the vinyl (leatherette) seats.
2012 Chevrolet Sonic Exterior :
2012 Chevrolet Sonic Exterior. – The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is an all new, from the ground up vehicle, and while its size and basic proportions aren’t all that much different than those of the former Aveo, nicely contoured sheetmetal, a more elegant roofline, and fine detailing throughout give it an entirely different, more upscale (and even somewhat sporty) look and feel.
Luggage capacity on the Sonic hatch is midpack, at 19 cubic feet; maximum cargo capacity is 30.9 cubic feet, well behind that of rivals like the Fit and the Accent. The sedan’s trunk accommodates 14 cubic feet of luggage, making it among the roomiest in this segment.
