2012 Volkswagen Tiguan Review, Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine – The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan ranks 7 out of 21 Affordable Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 31 published reviews and test drives of the Volkswagen Tiguan, and our analysis of reliability and safety data. Reviewers say the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan is hard to beat thanks to its powerful engine and upscale interior. The Volkswagen Tiguan has one of the peppiest engines in the class and one of the nicest interiors, but its high price may force some shoppers to turn to competitors with lower prices and better fuel economy ratings, like the Mazda CX-7. Though the Tiguan is expensive, reviewers think it offers a lot for the money, and the base model is well-equipped.

Despite its top performance, the 2012 VW Tiguan lags behind other compact SUVS because it’s not as utilitarian. But most reviewers don’t mind the Tiguan’s meager cargo space because the rear seat is really spacious, and passengers can slide the rear seat forward and back to get comfortable. Families willing to sacrifice some cargo space for a quality interior and a powerful engine should be pleased with the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan.

Volkswagen’s North American division is staffed by deacons. How else can you explain the company offering the automotive enthusiasts’ equivalent of the holy trinity: a stick-shift, diesel-burning station wagon? The company’s U.S. chief, Jonathan Browning, has said that he aims to make a diesel engine available in most, if not all, of the company’s offerings on these shores. For some, the wait will be short. Besides that holy Jetta—and the Golf and Passat that are already available—the newest Beetle will offer a dizzler by this time next year. Others will need more patience. Take Volkswagen’s oft-forgotten Tiguan crossover. This competent, moderately popular Golf on stilts just received a mid-cycle refresh. Sifting through the specs, we see that the American-market Tiguan gets a new front fascia and a new transmission. But where’s the diesel? Stuck in Europe. So off we went to see what we’re missing—and how that new snout looks up close.

Although a relatively recent entrant into this highly-competitive segment, the big VW Touareg’s little brother, the Golf-based Tiguan, has already built a reputation as a quality soft-roader. In fact, the Tiguan is VW Australia’s third biggest-selling model after the Golf and Polo. The just-released 2012 version will do nothing to diminish its standing and sales success. While the 2012 model has been annointed with Volkswagen’s frontal grille and headlight treatment and new-look tail-lights, there is a new front-wheel-drive model, upgraded engines, clever new technology and fuel-consumption and emissions reductions of up to 7.7 per cent and 8.2 per cent respectively. There is new seat trim and Volkswagen’s new steering wheel style, but the already-classy Tiguan interior has otherwise remained the same as the outgoing models.

Engine of 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan :
One engine propels the Tiguan, and it’s one of VW’s best. The turbocharged, 200-horsepower four works best with the six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, though it doesn’t feel especially light or nimble even in that trimmest configuration. The Tiguan’s just not an autocrosser–for that, there’s a Golf R with all-wheel drive. This crossover can tow up to 2200 pounds, and can mud around with optional all-wheel drive, toting your skis and pets if you want to share in the fun.
