The Acura RSX is a two door sport hatchback. Replacing the Integra coupe, the RSX served as Acura’s entry level car from 2002 until 2006, when the brand decided to move itself more upscale and the car no longer fit into the company’s scheme. Nevertheless, as a used car, both versions of the RSX should appeal to consumers desiring a reasonably affordable car that offers sporty coupe like styling and accessible performance. Overall, the RSX’ clean and uncluttered looks lacked both brand identity and charisma, a lethal combination (ipso facto).
The rumors look to be true Acura is bringing us an all new “sub TSX” model. Though not officially named yet, the camouflaged Acura prototype referred to as the “new RSX” was caught on camera by Brenda Priddy and Company this past weekend. Sporting a slightly modified version of the Acura “shield” grille, the design definitely has Acura DNA. Comparing it to the current TSX, it does indeed look smaller with a noticeably shorter rear end and trunk. There has been mention of an Acura hybrid coming by the end of 2012 so I wouldn’t be too surprised if this was it. It would certainly answer many questions about its size and its position in the current Acura lineup.

2013 Acura RSX Interior :
The base RSX came standard with the majority of convenience features expected for this class of car. Highlights included automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, a CD player and a moonroof. A smooth revving four cylinder was standard, and it came mated to either a five speed manual transmission or a five speed automatic. The base RSX initially produced 160 horsepower, but new SAE horsepower ratings in 2006 changed the number to 155. Leather seating was the only option.
Four people fit inside the RSX, which features two front bucket seats and a 50/50 split, folding rear seat. Base model upholstery is fabric, but the Type S gets perforated leather. Large gauges are grouped in a pod that’s angled toward the driver. The seats gained more supportive bolstering for 2005. A leather wrapped steering wheel is installed, and a seven speaker Bose stereo system with an in dash six CD changer goes into the Type-S. Cargo volume totals 16 cubic feet.
The RSX’ brakes are its biggest disappointment. The four wheel disk ABS controlled binders tell the right story on paper. In practice, they struggle to get the job done. Under emergency stops, the left and right ABS channels do not appear to be synchronized, creating a disconcerting Jitterbug vibration. Pistonheads would be well advised to factor in the price of a major brake upgrade when considering an RSX.
2013 Acura RSX Exterior :
The RSX Type-S added an in dash six CD changer, standard leather seating, 17 inch wheels, a more firmly tuned suspension and more powerful brakes. The Type-S also had a four cylinder engine tuned to produce extra horsepower (200 hp, later increased to 201). A six speed manual was the only choice for a transmission.
Because of its four cylinder engine and front wheel drive layout, the Acura RSX boasts better fuel economy than many other sport hatchbacks and coupes. Front-seat occupants will be comfortable, but adults sitting in back will find headroom lacking. The rear seat is split 60/40 and can be lowered to increase cargo capacity. So configured, the RSX boasts nearly 18 cubic feet of luggage space.
Designed with a particularly curvaceous profile, the RSX coupe has a pentagonal grille that resembles other Acura models. Tri beam headlights, body-colored side sills and lower, rectangular air ducts are used. The body displays chiseled accent lines and features short front and rear overhangs. Compound curved window glass complements thin A- and B-pillars to improve visibility. P205/55R16 tires on the base model are mounted on five spoke alloy wheels. The Type-S rides on P215/45R17 tires. A power moonroof is standard, and the Type-S coupe gets a deck-lid spoiler.
2013 Acura RSX Engine :
In base form, the 2.0 liter four cylinder generates 155 horsepower, in accordance with new testing standards established by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The performance focused Type-S edition is now rated at 201 hp. A lower final drive ratio with the six speed manual gearbox in the Type-S, introduced for 2005, was intended to deliver quicker acceleration.
Both front wheel drive hatchback models use track tuned suspensions that were enhanced for 2005 with reduced ride height, retuned bushings and thicker stabilizer bars. To produce handling traits that complement its increased engine output, the Type-S features firmer springs and dampers and a larger front stabilizer.
