2013 Audi A6 Hybrid Interior :
The A6 hybrid also has the signature LED headlights. Meanwhile, the energy storage unit for the electric drive is also discreetly concealed. The compact and particularly lightweight electric motor is connected to the crankshaft through a clutch. This parallel hybrid concept ensures that the available power is transmitted directly for uncompromising performance with seamless power and acceleration at every driving situation. Mated to an 8 speed Tiptronic transmission which integrates the electric motor with no additional space requirement, it controls the connection to the combustion engine through the clutch for shifting ease, sportiness and efficiency.
As a full hybrid on electric driving mode, a press of the EV button on the centre console, and it can travel at the speeds of up to 100 km/h purely on electric power with virtually no noise and with zero emissions, and has a range of three kilometres at a constant 60 km/h. The car is most enjoyable and potent when driven in boost mode with the accelerator motor and engine operating in tandem to generate more power with the full system output of 245hp and 480Nm of torque. During its recovery phase, the A6 hybrid recuperates energy during braking and overrun phases as the electric motor operates as a generator, converting kinetic energy into electric energy. This is stored in the lithium ion battery and subsequently used to operate the electric motor. In the convenient start stop mode, the internal combustion is switched off when the vehicle is at a standstill to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
2013 Audi A6 Hybrid Exterior :
Designed as a parallel hybrid, the Audi A6 hybrid produces a combined total of 245 hp of system output and 480 Nm of system torque. Its combustion engine, a 2.0L TFSI with 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque that works together with an electric motor producing 54 hp and 210 Nm of torque. For increased efficiency, the weight of the vehicle is reduced with Audi’s ultra lightweight technology made out of 30% aluminium and high strength steel, it not only reduces weight effectively, but enables an increase in agility and rigidity for more driving pleasure.
Visually, the A6 hybrid differs from the conventionally powered sedan solely in its hybrid design, an 18-inch aluminium turbine wheel design and the hybrid logos on fenders, tailgate and sill panels. In the interior too, everything looks the same – almost, with the inclusion of power meter in the instrument cluster indicating the different driving modes and the system’s overall output provides a clue to the innovative drive technology. The standard MMI Navigation plus system also now display the energy flows in the hybrid system or a breakdown of energy consumption.
2013 Audi A6 Hybrid Engine :
The A6 hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h. Standard urban, extra-urban and combined fuel consumption are all equal at 6.2 liters per 100 km. The Audi flagship combines a new level of technical intelligence with intuitively simple operation a multimedia interface (MMI) with an intuitive touch pad which enables the driver to control many functions by tracing the letters on the pad with a finger. The system recognises the entry acoustically after each character on the touch sensitive pad.
The optional navigation system benefits greatly from the new technology. Users can see layered maps that begin as a standard graphical navigation map, then overlaid with Google Earth maps, and overlaid again with route instructions and real-time traffic information. The system is also capable of 3D graphics modes. Overall, it’s very slick and one of the best nav displays we’ve ever seen.
While the European Union gets a choice of five powertrains including 2.0 and 3.0 liter diesels the U.S. makes do with the turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder and the supercharged 3.0 liter TSFI V6. Respective power figures are 211 horsepower and 258 pound feet torque, and 310 hp and 325 lb-ft. The front wheel drive 2.0 liter model is offered with a Continuously Variable Transmission, while all Quattro and V6 models get the new ZF-sourced eight-speed Tiptronic. Naturally, fuel economy is up as well, with the 2.0T estimated at 25/33/28 mpg city/highway/combined, while the supercharged six manages a respectable 19/28/22 mpg.
