For the look of the new Fiat Panda 4×4, Fiat Centro Stile designers started from the idea of consolidating its purely functional design features, adding small details that convey the image of an extremely sophisticated multifunctional mini SUV. Looks are strongly characterised by the marked geometric lines of the front and rear bumpers with aluminium colour cosmetic inserts to underline the presence of metallic protection under the body.

Fiat has just revealed high riding all wheel drive version of the new Panda in advance of its upcoming debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new Fiat Panda 4×4 will come with two microscopic engines, a raised suspension, and minor exterior tweaks over the base front drive Panda.

Visually, Fiat’s new Panda 4×4 is almost identical to the regular Panda and, for the most part, looks like someone fitted a lift kit onto a one. Up front, the Panda 4×4 has a square shaped grille that merges into an aluminum colored faux skidplate and unique foglights. The Panda 4×4 also gets black rocker sills, prominent “4×4” badging on the rear passenger doors, and 15 inch wheels. The Panda on steroids look is complete out back with a unique bumper with its own fake aluminum skidplate.

The new Fiat Panda 4×4 the only four wheel drive model in the A segment will make its debut at the forthcoming international Paris Motor Show. The successor to a bestseller which first appeared almost 30 years ago, today’s third generation four-wheel drive Panda is a perfect interpretation of the spirit of the times, uniting consolidated off road capabilities with a refined design and compact, efficient architecture. The Panda 4×4 is the superlative expression of the model’s great versatility, a genuine Super Panda, ready to tackle mountain mule tracks and the urban jungle in the same assured manner.

In addition to standard equipment capable of satisfying the most demanding of customers, from a technical point of view the new Panda 4×4 has been further improved to reassert its capacity to compete with off road vehicles of much greater dimensions and higher prices. The 5 door Panda is 368 centimetres long, 167 centimetres wide and 160 centimetres high. The wheelbase is 230 centimetres and it has a front and rear track of 141 and 140 centimetres respectively.

Fiat is advertising this new Panda as the only 4×4 model in the A-segment. As you would expect, it is based on the standard 5 door Panda hatchback and it is 3680mm long, 1670mm wide and 1600mm tall, with a 2300mm wheelbase. It has a front track of 1410mm and a rear track of 1400mm, while the styling looks a bit more rugged when compared to the regular variant.

The Panda’s choice of engines will include a 75 bhp 1.3 liter MultiJet 4 cylinder diesel and Fiat’s intriguing 85 bhp 0.9 liter TwinAir turbocharged 2 cylinder. The latter choice is already available in European models of the Fiat 500 city car. The Panda 4×4 features a permanent four-wheel drive system that is aided by electronic stability control, along with an electronic locking differential that transmits power from slipping wheels to those with a firmer purchase on the driving surface.

2013 Fiat Panda 4×4 Interior :
The interiors pick up the solutions adopted on 4×2 versions with some important innovations: a new green fascia variant framing the instruments and the large storage pocket, fabric seats with a special design in three colour variant (green, beige, orange) and eco leather details, front and rear door panels also with eco leather inserts and finally a high console over the central tunnel which adds a further storage compartment to the 14 already present on 4×2 versions.

Fiat has already dropped all of the info for its new Panda 4×4 mini utility, but the Paris Motor Show allows us to finally see this prospective future Jeep in the flesh. Claimed to be the only four wheel drive offering in Europe’s A segment, the 2013 Fiat Panda 4×4 promises to be a proficient off roader in a very small package. From the sounds of it, this latest Panda 4×4 is no softroader, with permanent four wheel drive that maximizes off road capabilities through a torque on demand system that features a pair of differentials.

The new car’s rear suspension is lighter than its predecessor and provides better ride and acoustic comfort, with the same off road performance as before. Elegant looks are combined with impressive off road credentials. New Panda 4×4 is destined to be the benchmark in this particular market segment thanks to its refined style, attention to detail and comprehensive equipment. This is demonstrated by a complete and unique range of standard equipment: ESC with ELD, manual climate control system, CD/MP3 radio, 15″ burnished alloy rims, 175/65 R15 M+S tyres, electric rear view mirrors, central locking system with remote control and rear head restraints. A vast range of optional equipment and accessories is available, to further enhance either its urban or off-road use, as required.

2013 Fiat Panda 4×4 Exterior :
The Panda 4×4 features an ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system with an ELD (Electronic Locking Differential) function as standard. This system provides additional assistance while driving and setting off uphill on slippery terrain (snow, ice, mud etc.). More specifically, the ELD acts by braking the wheels with poor grip (or those slipping more than the others), thereby transferring the drive force to those which have more grip on the ground. This function can be activated manually by pressing a button behind the gear lever and operates below 30mph.

Despite what the name may have you believe, the Panda 4×4 will be offered with both front and all wheel drive. The all wheel drive version uses an electronic locking differential to route power where it’s needed. Most of the time, the front wheels will be propelling the Panda 4×4 along. For especially slippery terrain, full time all wheel drive can be activated with the flip of a switch at speeds under 32 mph.

2013 Fiat Panda 4×4 Engine :
Two engine versions for the Fiat Panda 4×4 will be available, both with Start&Stop: the new 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo and the 75 HP 1.3 MultiJet II diesel. With respect to the 1.2 Fire of the previous generation, the TwinAir Turbo has 40% more torque. This in combination with the special six speed gearbox with lowrange first gear ensures much better uphill starts, quality when starting, flexibility and pick-up. A similar improvement is found on the MultiJet II engine, where torque is increased by 30%.

Powering the Fiat Panda 4×4 is the Panda’s “TwinAir” 0.9 liter turbocharged I 2 that makes 85 hp. An 80 hp dual fuel version that runs on gasoline and methane will also be offered. Those who prefer diesel engines can opt for the MultiJet II 1.3 liter turbodiesel I 4 that’s good for 75 hp. Both engines are paired with a six speed manual transmission.

The Panda has the most extensive, versatile range in its category, and to confirm this two important new Panda family members will be making their debut in Paris: the Trekking and Natural Power versions. The first is the link between the 4×2 and the 4×4 version by combining off road looks with smart front-wheel drive by implementing Traction+ technology. This is an innovative traction control system, which improves handling on slippery terrain guaranteeing excellent performance when setting off. There is also the new Panda Natural Power equipped with a dual fuel (methane and petrol) 80 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo engine to combine all the running cost and eco friendly advantages of methane with Turbo TwinAir technology for excellent fuel consumption, emission and performance values.

The redesigned 2013 Fiat Panda 4×4, the Italian automaker’s mini SUV, will debut in September at the 2012 Paris Auto Show. The Panda is not sold in the U.S. The Panda 4×4 gets a new 75 horsepower 1.3 liter MultiJet II diesel engine or a new 85 hp 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo engine. Two new models in the Panda lineup, the Trekking and Natural Power, will also be shown in Paris. The Panda Natural Power is equipped with the 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo modified to run on gasoline and methane. The Trekking version gives the front wheel drive Panda a beefier 4×4 look and Fiat’s Traction+ system, a traction control system that provides better grip.
