2013 Nissan Sylphy | Review, Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine. – Now, Nissan unveiled its Chinese market Sylphy at the Beijing auto show. Normally, we don’t pay much attention to Chinese market cars, but this Sylphy is our first look at Nissan’s new compact sedan, meaning it’s pretty much the Sentra we’re scheduled to get this summer.

It doesn’t take long to connect the dots after taking a quick look at the teaser photos and video of the 2013 Nissan Sentra for the North American market and comparing them with the official imagery of the new Nissan Sylphy sedan that was revealed today at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show. Even though Nissan preferred to use the term “based on the Sylphy” in its press statement for the 2013 Sentra, it is evident that the two cars are more or less one and the same.

Starting with the 2013 Altima, Nissan will be launching five all new products in the United States over the next 15 months. And while the sedan you see here is initially heading to China as the Nissan Sylphy, it’ll be heading to our shores as the Sentra later this year, albeit with a few market specific tweaks. The new Nissan Sylphy, which we’ve covered and driven in Thailand, is a global model that will go on sale in 120 countries, with sales expected to hit 550,000 units annually by 2014. Thailand was the second country after China to launch the car, which has now popped up in America as the 2013 Nissan Sentra. Different name, same car.

Nissan says that it focused on “class above design standards” inside and out, as well as efficiency in engineering for the 2013 Sentra messages consistent with what we heard in Thailand. The new Sentra is 68 kg or 5% lighter than the outgoing model, yet has slightly larger overall dimensions and more interior room. This leads to a 13% improvement in EPA combined fuel economy.

2013 Nissan Sylphy Interior :
The Sylphy, and thus our new Sentra, will get LED bordered headlights, LED taillights, and a more muscular shape at the rear. If it looks familiar to you, it should; Nissan unveiled its latest Altima earlier this month at the New York auto show, which looks largely the same although slightly bigger. Nissan touts generous shoulder and legroom as well as trunk capacity among the best in its class. On the gadget front, the Sylphy will get dual zone climate control, remote keyless entry, and pushbutton start.

The Chinese edition Sylphy will go on sale in mid 2012, with the rest of the major global markets receiving first shipments between then and 2014. Expect Nissan to unveil the Sentra and release more details about it this summer. The modern design language of the exterior is carried over to the spacious interior with high quality materials and cabin details crafted to please the senses. Within the roomy cabin, passengers enjoy generous shoulder room and legroom one would expect in more expensive vehicles. The trunk’s capacity is among the best in its class. Thorough noise isolation, vibration absorption, and an advanced suspension with optimized high stiffness body assure a peacefully smooth ride. Amenities for comfort and convenience include dual zone air conditioning, Intelligent Key and keyless pushbutton ignition.

2013 Nissan Sylphy Exterior :
“Nowhere is the new Sentra’s ‘class above’ style more evident than in the interior. You notice it the minute you sit in the roomy, comfortable seats and when you touch the high quality materials. And when driving you notice the extra attention paid to isolating noise, vibration and harshness from entering the cabin,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America. Not an empty boast, we say.

The US Sentra is powered by the same 1.8L MRA8DE as the ASEAN Sylphy, and the 130 hp/174 Nm figures correspond as well. This new engine has a longer than normal stroke for improved combustion speed and efficiency, as well as twin Continuously Variable Timing Control (CVTC).

Just looking at the all new global sedan inspires excitement and confidence. The lowered stance and well proportioned aerodynamic body create a strong presence, while the elegantly upswept character line expresses dynamic yet refined performance. The front grille and LED bordered headlamps contribute to the premium image and help create a modern look. LED taillights, a sharply angled trunk lid and eye catching chrome trim add to the tastefully styled one class above appearance.

2013 Nissan Sylphy Engine :
With its new 1.8 liter engine and next generation XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), the all new global sedan delivers impressive fuel efficiency. A long piston stroke and Twin Continuously variable valve timing control (C-VTC) optimize combustion, while hydrogen free Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating on valve lifters halves friction of previous coatings and beehive valve springs reduce friction and inertial loss. The next generation XTRONIC CVT is lighter and more compact than previous designs, yet achieves greater efficiency and a wider gear ratio range, thanks to an auxiliary transmission with sub planetary gears and smaller pulleys. This environmentally friendly performance reflects Nissan’s global PURE DRIVE commitment to reducing CO2 emissions through developing fuel efficient internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies and introducing them into the market.

This new model, to be produced at the Dongfeng Nissan Huadu Plant facilities in Guangzhou, will be released in mid 2012. Following its introduction in China, the car will be launched in most major markets worldwide during the course of 2012 and approximately 120 countries by 2014. A new 1.8 liter four, mated to a next gen Xtronic continuously variable transmission, powers the new global car. The centerpiece of this new engine is an emphasis on improved fuel economy, as is the norm in the ultra competitive compact segment. A longer stroke and variable valve timing promise to improve combustion efficiency, while new internal coatings aim to minimize friction and inertial losses. If we end up getting the 1.8 here, it will mean downsizing from the current car’s 2.0 liter, which is in line with what Nissan has done with the Versa.
