2013 Peugeot 208 release Date :
Peugeot has released images and technical details regarding the upcoming 205 GTi hatchback ahead of the model’s debut during the 2012 Paris Auto Show. Power comes via a 200 bhp turbocharged 1.6 liter inline 4 coupled to a close ratio 6 speed manual transmission. The sprint from 0 to 62 mph is expected to take less than 7.0 seconds, according to Peugeot’s estimate. Weight savings have trimmed 363 lbs. from the 208 GTi compared to the outgoing model, the 207 GTi. Firmer suspension settings, retuned steering and a stability control system that can be switched off entirely help sweeten the deal. The exterior of the 208 GTi has also been reworked, with subtle chrome accents and handsome alloy wheels that nicely fill the wheel arches.

After at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show Peugeot has unveiled the 208 GTi concept car, this September’s Paris Auto Show will bring the unveiling of the 208 GTi production version. The new model will arrive on the market in the spring of 2013. “With the 208 GTi, our objective was to produce an engaging sporty performance driving pleasure, an experience that speaks immediately to all enthusiasts: performance, power, reactivity, and an aura of respect and desire. While the 205 GTi was naturally our inspiration, the 208 GTi is its modern interpretation.” Gaëtan Demoulin, Peugeot Customer Synthesis Manager.

The Peugeot automaker also offers 17 inch alloy wheels (205/45 tires) as standard equipment on the 2013 Peugeot 208 GTi. Some updates to the standard equipment on the vehicle is also not left behind such as, disc brakes with ventilation, a revised suspension, damping, stronger crossmembers, anti roll bar with thicker design, and stiffened springs. Finally, what might be some good news for the beleaguered Peugeot. The Gallic brand has let loose details on the 208 GTi, a hot hatch that hopes to do a better job of channeling the much beloved 205 GTi than the intervening 206 and 207 models. Our drive of the standard 208 revealed a hatch that stoked some of those old fires, and on paper the 208 GTi has two of our favorite things going for it: less weight and more power.

Having arrived at their destination with no wrong turns due to the navigation system, they simply have to activate the Park Assist. Rare in this vehicle segment, this technological equipment magnifies the compactness of the 208 XY to make driving in town considerably easier. Parking is now automated and becomes a pleasure. After activating the Park Assist, the driver selects the manoeuvre to be carried out on the touchscreen, parallel parking on the left or right-hand side of the road. Using ultrasound sensors, those of the front and rear parking assistance plus two side sensors at the front, the Park Assist measures the size of the spaces available until an adequate space is detected. The 208 XY then parks instinctively and automatically, by acting on the electric parking assistance. Relieved of this task, the driver simply has to check the progress of the vehicle and its surroundings. Almost magic!…

2013 Peugeot 208 Interior :
The instruments and controls, which have been re-thought structurally, have provided a previously unheard of field of expression for the stylists. The design of the dashboard blends style lines which are both floating and graphic. Concern for perceived quality can be seen everywhere, the obsessive attention to detail, like the vents at the end of the dashboard in the shape of a cat’s eye, the numerous “faceted” components echoing certain sections of the exterior style (grille, roof, cut-out of the boot) everything has been thought about and re thought, from the shape of the door trim pads to the gear lever. The grouping of all the audio controls on the touch screen also permits simplification of the “manmachine” interface with a significant reduction in the number of buttons and controls, favouring a pure and modern design.

In keeping with its time, consistent with the new ergonomics of its instruments and controls, the Peugeot 208 will offer the majority of its customers, that is from the 2nd level of the range (i.e. approximately 80% of the mix!) a large 7″ colour touch screen with carefully designed graphics (resolution 800 x 480) and intuitive operation. It allows easy access to the various functions: radio, Bluetooth hands free kit or playing music files via a USB connection or audio streaming. The screen adopts a semi floating style as the designers wanted to highlight it in a way which is very enhancing. It is positioned prominently, within easy reach and at eye level, for maximum safety, comfort and harmony with the other components of the dashboard.

The new 208 GTi can be simply described in two words: sporty and refined. It will be offered with a special Satin Pearlescent White color (offered for a limited edition of just 50 units), for all the other customers having the possibility to choose between six different exterior colors. This special white will be combined with 17″ diamond alloy wheels with Onyx Black paint coated in gloss varnish and a special spoiler.

In Spring 2012, Peugeot rejuvenated the multipurpose Supermini car segment with the launch of the 208. This new model revolutionises the customer choice with its compactness, elegance, occupant space, equipment, style. At its wheel, the driver discovers a driving pleasure the like of which they have not experienced before. The 208 is now also looking toward the Premium segment. with the 208 XY and 208 GTi which combine intrinsic qualities with those of comfort, versatility and occupant space. These two distinctive versions make their mark with strong and differentiated expressions. Furthermore, the 208 XY begins a new story within the Marque; that of cars with an exclusive and refined charm. “With the 208 XY, Peugeot begins a new chapter in its story. With the 208 GTi, it re generates an icon.”

2013 Peugeot 208 Exterior :
The 208 GTi also sports a few visual touches such as halogen headlamps with LED indicators and daytime running lights. These lamps frame a special 208 grille, which on the GTi gets a glossy black finish with chrome inserts designed to resemble a checkered flag. This kind of attention to detail is featured inside the car as well. The passenger compartment is a real performance fan’s environment, with a sports leather stitched steering wheel and matching gear lever, double stitching in the seats, and modern LED backlighting for the instrument gauges. The seats are trimmed with Nappa leather on the outer section, and cloth in the center with an embossed tartan motif, and a leather head restraint.

Outside, the 2013 Peugeot 208 GTi get some sport touches on the vehicles exterior with special grille complemented by a glossy black finish and chrome touch on the front end. In addition, the new models also get updates look with LED daytime running lights with indicators that surround halogen headlamps. Particularly enchanting, visible both day and night, the light signature of the front face is refined by the new halogen headlamps, equipped with a latest generation light guide. These carefully designed lamps with a rectangular internal structure use LED technology for the directional indicators and daytime lighting. Tightly enclosing the main beam headlamps, the floating trim of which calls to mind a cat’s pupil, they give the expression of the 208 XY and 208 GTi with an iris.

These lamps frame a special 208 grille. The slightly widened chromed bead gives a prominence to the XY where on the GTi the mesh contributes to the dynamism, making the lamps stand out. This mesh is, in fact, different on each model. On the 208 XY, the chromed grille has three horizontal bars overhanging the black lacquered bar. On the 208 GTi, the gloss black grille draws the eye with bright chrome inserts, which reinvent the sport chequered flag effect but in 3D.

2013 Peugeot 208 Engine :
The weight, the aerodynamics, the very low and ultra low rolling resistance tyres and, of course, the expertise and technological innovation of the Group in the engine domain are factors which allow the 208 range to move to a new level in the CO2 performance of a vehicle of the Marque. The efficiency of the HDi PEF diesel engines and the VTi and THP petrol engines, reinforced by the arrival of a new generation of 3 cylinder petrol engines, in fact contributes to the reduction of 34 g/km in the average emissions of CO2 of the Peugeot 208 range compared with the launch range of the 207, and a difference of up to 46 g for the entry level petrol engine. So, the 208 is aiming to take up the position of leader in its segment.

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6 liter four cylinder engine rated at 197 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. With only around 2,550 pounds to lug around, the tiny mill will see the 208 GTi sprint from 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds. Just because the 208 GTi isn’t coming to the U.S. doesn’t mean it should be ignored. In fact, several generations of Volkswagen GTI and Honda Civic Si owners (among others) owe a debt of gratitude to Peugeot. No, seriously, hear us out. From the mid 1980s to early 1990s, the Peugeot 205 GTI was quite possibly the best performance bargain in the world and one of the hottest hatchbacks ever. This front wheel drive French 3 door had phenomenal handling and 1.6 or 1.9 liter inline 4 both of which offered surprising amounts of grunt. It didn’t hurt that the proportions of the 205 GTi were just about perfect. It looked fast and fun, but in an understated kind of way.

This improved engine has been combined with recalibrated dampers, sports springs, updated anti roll bars and revised steering for extra firmness. The car sits on 17″ diamond Carbon wheels, with Storm paint and matte varnish housing 302mm ventilated discs at the front and 249mm at the rear. The VXR is powered by 1.6 liter Turbo engine that delivers 192 HP. Performance numbers are pretty close to the one delivered by the new 208 GTti: 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph. As for the new Clio RS we are still waiting for it to debut. Rumors say that the new model will be offered with a choice of 1.2 and 1.4 turbocharged tCe four cylinders with output taken close to 200 HP.

Fitted with 205/45 tyres, the 17″ diamond Carbon wheels, with Storm paint and matt varnish, house 302mm ventilated discs at the front and 249mm at the rear. Cooled by dynamic air intakes, they provide controlled and incisive braking. The 1.6 THP 200bhp petrol engine expresses itself through a reworked exhaust system. As soon as the ignition is switched on, it emits an appealing sound note that delights the ears, at all engine speeds. Coupled with a manual gearbox with six close-ration gears, the engine draws the full potential from this chassis. With its maximum torque of 275Nm and its maximum power of 147kW (200bhp), the 208 GTi3 has the potential of acceleration to the highest level. 0 to 60mph (0 to 100km/h) is reached in less than 7 seconds, 0 to 1000m in 27 seconds. The in-gear reacceleration is equally impressive, with the 208 GTi accelerating from 50 to 75mph (80 to 120km/h) in less than 7 seconds in 5th gear. This performance benefits from the improvement achieved lightening the weight of the vehicle. Light in weight, at 1160 kg, the 208 GTi achieves a real feat by emitting CO2 at just 145g/km. A playful sports car, powerful and safe, with an enchanting sound, which is also a practical hatchback. the 208 GTi delights its driver every day, the (fully disengageable) ESP watching over them.
