Porsche has expanded its model lineups using the Taco Bell approach: same ingredients, different combinations. Take the 2013 Panamera GTS, the eighth distinct version of ?the big hunchback sedan. Porsche starts with a basic taco shell. ?Actually, the Panamera is more substantial, more of a gordita. Then the company adds all wheel drive. Think of that as the binding unguent in the GTS’s Cheesy Gordita Crunch a layer of mellow reassurance in a world gone mad. Now add beef, the V-8 from the S model. (The Turbo engine would be the steak; the hybrid powertrain, the health conscious but pricey chicken.) Finish with some pepper Jack sauce, in this case a revised intake system, cams with one millimeter of additional lift, and the stiffer valve springs from the Turbo model. The changes lift output to 430 hp from the 4S’s 400. Porsche’s Panamera is a sacrilegious, money grubbing attempt to profit from decades of sports car perfection. It’s also the best sport sedan a huge pile of money can buy, and Porsche’s just upped the ante with the new driver focused, 2013 Panamera GTS.

In master Italian storyteller Umberto Eco’s latest novel, “The Prague Cemetery,” the despicable and horrifically offensive narrator says, “Their abuse of beer makes them incapable of having the slightest notion of their vulgarity, and the height of this vulgarity is that they feel no shame in being German.” I mention this not only because it’s funny (in an admittedly cruel way), but because recently the gathered worldwide automotive media was told by a man with a straight face that power wise, the new Porsche Panamera GTS “nicely fills the gap” between the 400 horsepower Panamera 4S and the 500 horsepower Turbo. Perhaps more unbelievably, the GTS marks the ninth (ninth!) iteration of the Panamera. Ford (somehow) hasn’t even dreamed up that many versions of the Mustang, and keep in mind there are 22 flavors of Porsche 911 currently for sale. To cop Mr. Eco’s style for a moment he did write “The Infinity of Lists,” after all the choices range from Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera S, Panamera 4S, Panamera Diesel, Panamera S Hybrid, Panamera Turbo, and Panamera Turbo S to this car, the new Panamera GTS. How German is that?…

Director Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” hits the prole-plexes this winter, and it appears Gatsby’s car has been recast as a 1929 Duesenberg J Sport Phaeton. Oy. With respect, Baz, the Rolls Royce is one of the book’s central metaphors. It was a British luxury car, and one of the most fantastic displays of American Anglophilia imaginable, owned at the time by people desperately trying to scrub up and give themselves some class. Gatsby is a Veblenian antihero. So there. There, as I began breaking for the tight switchback that followed, I snuck a glance at the speedometer and saw that the car was going 140 mph. At first the number didn’t register, but then context hit me in the face as if I’d driven head on into the guardrail.

A couple of weeks before I had been in that exact location in a Camaro ZL1 travelling at precisely the same speed. The ZL1 is, of course, a 580 hp sports car that has two doors and looks like a robot from another planet. The Panamera GTS has 430 hp, a 100 pound weight disadvantage and can fool someone into thinking it was a humpback whale.

2013 Porsche Panamera GTS Price :
Pricing for the new Porsche Panamera GTS has been set at $75,850 based on current exchange rates. If there are changes on the Porsche Panamera GTS we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep follow our blog.

You might scoff at how similar the GTS is to the 4S, but what Porsche saved in development time, it passes on to the customer: At $110,875 to start, the GTS is thousands cheaper than a similarly optioned 4S. And a Panamera 4S is no bad thing to taste like.

On the Ascari circuit it’s more of the same, however you have the ability to push harder and focus on individual behaviors in a given corner. Right off the bat I notice that compared to its Turbo brother or competition like an AMG, the GTS feels slow on the straights. Perhaps that’s a testament to how spoiled I’ve become, but the reality is that most sedans in this price range ($109,900 to start, easily increased by $50,000 with Porsche’s online configurator, and the sky’s the limit from there) make more than 500 horsepower. However, in Sport+, it is nice to experience the direct, instantaneous throttle response you really only get from a naturally aspirated motor. One cool trick: Rather than cutting engine revs during an upshift, the GTS motor briefly turns off two of the cylinders, cutting power but not engine momentum. Go, science!… Cornering is really where the GTS distinguishes itself from other sedans. Turn in is sports car sharp, and thanks to PDCC, the chassis stays remarkably flat around corners. Not only that, but quick side to side transitions don’t allow the car’s considerable bulk to upset the chassis.

The GTS starts out as an all wheel drive Panamera 4S, but the 4.8-liter V8 has been tweaked to make 430 horsepower and 384 pound feet of torque. The GTS is lowered nearly half an inch over the standard car and has a wider front and rear track. Porsche’s active suspension management (PASM) has been tuned for a more advanced driver and the cosmetic changes reflect the new nature of this Panamera. The GTS also ups the price to $111,975. The 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS ticks all of the right boxes for a GTS, but how does it compare with the big boy of the Panamera fleet, the $173,200, 550 hp Turbo S?…

2013 Porsche Panamera GTS Interior :
Porsche Panamera GTS. – An expressive design. Well conceived technology. A consistently sporty style. Why should the rules for performance be any different for the interior?… The interior of the Panamera GTS is sporty, uncluttered and ergonomic. The layout is ingeniously designed and functional. This interior belongs in a sports car. What strikes you immediately is the elevated center console with controls arranged into logical groups for fast and direct access by the driver. The steering wheel adjusts for both height and reach. The five circular instruments with ‘GTS’ logo on the central rev counter and on the integrated 4.8 inch color display are quick, clear and easy to read. The color screen gives access, for example, to the on board computer or tire pressure information and, in conjunction with PCM, it displays the navigation system map.

Stray farther from your commute and the reason for that becomes clear. This monster has moves. If its cockpit style, button infested interior gives the impression that you’re at the helm of a starship, you’ll be surprised to discover that it flies in the face of the theory of relativity, seeming to get smaller and lighter the faster you go. This is particularly evident on a racetrack, where all of these elements come together to make for a very satisfying drive.

The all wheel drive system is calibrated to send the power to the rear unless absolutely necessary, so the GTS is easy to steer with the throttle, but always prepared to save the day. Get a little heat in the tires and it slips into go kart mode. The power isn’t overwhelming, at least it doesn’t feel it, but that just means you can drive the car as quickly as will can go without fearing too much for your life. This probably explains how I found myself going so fast at the end of that straight when I wasn’t even trying.

2013 Porsche Panamera GTS Exterior :
I drove three different GTS cars around the track, all mechanically identical but with differently optioned interiors. Two of the cars were equipped with multi-function steering wheels that offer those dreadful push/pull gear change buttons. The inherent weakness of their design shows up specifically on the track, when under braking with the wheel cranked slightly to the left and all of your upper body weight transferred onto your right palm, you inadvertently upshift. The much better solution is the button free, Alcantara wrapped wheel that places the PDK paddles behind the steering wheel, where they belong. Even the trackside Porsche people agreed with that assessment and told me to just go and drive the GTS with paddles.

The Panamera GTS is no slouch in default Drive mode. Whacking the throttle to the floor with no performance-enhancing buttons selected gets the job done quickly and very smoothly. Selecting Sport Plus, shutting off PSM and engaging Launch Control unleashes the beast with tire-spinning, short shifting 1st and banging off upshifts with measurably more authority and harshness. This engine is so quick to rev and it’s fascinating to watch the tach needle jump down (and up for downshifts) with an almost digital precision no sloppy throttle map here.

The Panamera is Porsche’s full size, four-seat, fast-backed executive sport sedan, competing with cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Audi A7, Maserati Quattroporte, Aston Martin Rapide and the BMW 640i Gran Coupe. The Panamera, which debuted in 2009, is built in a lovely little atelier in Leipzig, Germany. The 300-hp V6 base model ambles to 60 miles per hour in 6 seconds. The 550 hp Panamera Turbo S hits the same speed in a rather more eventful 3.6 seconds, thanks in part to the effective but kind of pointless launch control.

Foresight begins with good visibility. This is why the Panamera GTS is equipped with Bi-Xenon(TM) main headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS). Its dynamic cornering light function swivels the headlights towards the inside of a corner, based on steering angle and road speed, and the static cornering lights activate the auxiliary headlights in order to illuminate more of the road at tight corners and turns. In addition, PDLS adapts light distribution to suit the current speed and visibility conditions. Also fitted as standard are the four LED daytime running spot lights in each main headlight.

2013 Porsche Panamera GTS Engine :
So impressively that Porsche brought us to the very southern part of Spain and turned us loose on Ascari, the gorgeous private racetrack built in 2000 near Ronda. But first we had a 90-minute drive through some of Andalusia’s most stunning mountain roads. On the street, the most notable difference between the GTS and other non-Sound Symposer’d Panameras is, of course, the sound. My notes say, “Deep, textured, throaty, growly, lovely, layered, mean.” Performance on the street was solid, unflappable, and confidence-inspiring. The large, sticky tires (255/45/19 front, 285/40/19 rear) and widened track provide massive grip, and the AWD system smartly and forcefully puts the increased power down. Carving canyons in the GTS, I got the same feeling I get from other high-horsepower (and of course high-dollar) AWD sports cars like a Bentley GT or a Nissan GT-R.

The GTS’s star attraction is its torque rich 4.8 liter V8, the same dry-sump, alloy-block engine as in the all wheel drive Panamera 4S but let off the leash a bit, with a higher redline (7,100 rpm fuel shut off), lumpier cam lift logic, more aggressive transmission software (quicker, harder shifts available from the dual clutch PDK gearbox), and additional cold air boxes with active shutters behind lower lateral bumper intakes. All that’s good for an additional 30 hp over the 4S and another 15 pound feet of torque. The official specs from Stuttgart say 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, but at the business end of this Swabian wrist rocket it feels a little quicker than that.
