As the flagship of the Volvo line, the S80 showcases the curvier new side of Volvo, but in a somewhat more conservative some might say prestige oriented way. And that’s true especially from the outside. And although the look is attractive from the side, with an dashing roofline, and a look that’s unmistakeably Volvo from the front, the S80 looks dated from some angles and definitely less daring than the smaller, flamboyant S60 sport sedan. The instrument panel and cabin design of the 2013 Volvo S80 show no signs of looking dated or stodgy, though. In fact, the style mavens will still be very satisfied with the against the grain look inside, with contrasting materials and Volvo’s ‘floating’ center stack a thin panel that houses a high end audio system, with extra storage behind.

For 2013, Volvo’s range topping S80 sedan is back with the same conservative but timeless styling it wore last year. Critics will point out that the S80 isn’t nearly as fresh or trendy in its exterior design as its smaller brother, the S60, but that’s the whole point. Volvo’s premier sedan is aimed at those that enjoy comfort, luxury and the latest safety features, but aren’t out to impress friends and neighbors. Nowhere is this philosophy more evident than on the S80’s interior. The leather is equal parts supple and durable, the instruments are contemporary and the dash uses Volvo’s “floating” center stack design for both style and functionality. Wood veneers are used throughout, blended with brushed metal trim for a uniquely Scandinavian take on luxury that is anything but pretentious.

Volvo’s flagship sedan is hardly its newest product, having hit the market for its second generation in 2007, but the Swedish automaker has seen fit to keep things relatively updated with the introduction of a new infotainment system for 2012 and a few mild updates for 2013. Making our test S80 feel a little more exclusive was a $2,300 Inscription Package that adds buttery soft full leather trim to the seats and dashboard, as well as overly glossy wood to the dashboard, doors and steering wheel. Like its smaller S60 brother, the S80 gains a new, manual looking gear lever for 2013, as well as a few infotainment updates that make the so called Sensus navigation and audio system easier to use.

2013 Volvo S80 Price :
Pricing for the new 2013 Volvo S80 has been set at $39,150–$47,000 based on current exchange rates. If there are changes on the 2013 Volvo S80 we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep follow our blog.

2013 Volvo S80 T6 AWD base price, $42,950. As tested, $51,445. Platinum Package, $3,850; Inscription Package, $2,300; Climate Package, $900; Metallic Paint, $550; Destination, $895. A base front drive model is powered by a 3.2 liter inline six, but the all wheel drive 300 horsepower, turbocharged S80 T6 runs just $4,000 more. That difference is nearly negated when the T6’s standard moonroof ($1,000 on the 3.2) and 18-inch wheels ($750 on the 3.2) are factored in.

What’s now a $2,250 difference nets buyers all wheel drive, an extra 60 horsepower (for a total of 300 ponies) and, more importantly, an additional 89 lb-ft. of torque (to 325), which is spread across the rev range from 1,500 to 4,800 rpm thanks to the 3.0 liter inline six cylinder’s turbocharger. This is the same engine we’ve enjoyed in various other Volvo products and it makes the most of the S80 T6’s relatively lithe 4,000 lbs. curb weight. By comparison, the similarly powerful BMW 535i xDrive tips the scales at 4,233 lbs.

2013 Volvo S80 Interior :
the S80 has carried through for several model years now essentially unchanged. Several years ago it got a retouch, with a new grille and some more chrome accents, as well as a more visible exhaust outlet all serving to sharpen the look. And although the look is attractive from the side, with an dashing roofline, and a look that’s unmistakeably Volvo from the front, the S80 looks dated from some angles and definitely less daring than the smaller, flamboyant S60 sport sedan.

The instrument panel and cabin design of the 2013 Volvo S80 show no signs of looking dated or stodgy. In fact, the style mavens will still be very satisfied. Volvo’s ‘floating’ center stack a thin panel that houses a high end audio system, with extra storage behind remains unrivaled for functionality and style. Materials take a stark, Scandinavian tack, with light and dark tones providing contrast, along with silk metal inlays and real wood veneers that fully look the part of a luxury car cabin.

The S80’s center controls sit on a thin metal panel pioneered in the S40 compact sedan. Luxurious touches include optional real wood trim with a wood accented steering wheel. The back bench has a standard 60/40 split folding function for increased cargo capacity. Interior features include :
>. Standard leather wrapped steering wheel, shifter and brake handle.
>. Standard Bluetooth connectivity.
>. Optional moonroof.
>. Optional heated front and rear seats.
>. Optional ventilated front seats.
>. Optional leather covered dashboard.
>. Optional navigation system with real time traffic info.

2013 Volvo S80 Exterior :
All the usual luxury sedan features are offered here, but it’s safety and especially active safety that’s central to the S80 package. Add the available Technology Package, and you get a suite of radar and camera related active safety features including Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, Adaptive Cruise Control, Distance Alert, and a Lane Departure Warning system. This year that package also includes a Road Sign Information system as well. Rain sensor wipers and headlight washers are now included in all 2013 Volvo S80s, and the Personal Car Communicator, a special keyfob system that can report the security status of your vehicle remotely including the capability to detect an intruder in your vehicle has been made standard.

Volvo says Scandinavian luxury is accessible, elegant and intelligent without being elitist. Volvo has shaken the boxy look it made famous by giving the S80 a curvier, sleeker appearance with a slightly sportier profile, yet still an unmistakably Volvo design. Exterior features include :
>. Available 17 or 18 inch alloy wheels.
>. Standard power operated heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
>. Standard rain sensing windshield wipers.
>. Standard headlight washers.
>. Optional heated windshield washer nozzles.
>. Optional xenon high intensity discharge headlights with articulating lenses.

2013 Volvo S80 Engine :
The performance oriented 300 hp, 3.0 liter turbocharged six in the all wheel drive T6 is an impressive powertrain that can move the S80 quickly, but even with it the S80’s just not that much fun to drive. Factor in a lack of steering feel, and the sense that you’re carrying a lot of heft, and this is a car that definitely feels more agreeable on the highway. Go with the base straight six and front wheel drive, and you’ll have a car that feels a little more nimble, if you don’t need the all weather ability. Again, highway trips are its forte, with the comfortable suspension settings and quiet interior, the S80 devours the miles.

The 2013 Volvo S80 can be equipped, in T6 versions, with the same 300 horsepower, 3.0 liter turbocharged in line six cylinder engine that’s under the hood of the S60 T6 sport sedan. It definitely feels a little more under the reins in the S80, but at the same time, the S80 is a respectable performer up against luxury sedans its own size.

The front wheel drive S80 is available with a 240 hp 3.2 liter inline six cylinder engine or a 230 hp 3.2 liter PZEV engine. The T6 is available with all wheel drive and a 300 hp turbocharged 3.0 liter inline six. Both engines are matched with a six speed Geartronic automatic transmission and the T6 AWD includes sport mode. Safety features include ABS, traction control, stability control, and six airbags. Adaptive cruise control, collision warning system with pre braking, and blind spot information system are optional, as well as active bi xenon headlamps that follow the road around curves. Also included in the safety roster is the Personal Car Communicator and City Safety.

>. 240 horsepower, 3.2 liter six cylinder (3.2).
>. 300 hp, turbocharged 3.0 liter six cylinder (T6).
>. Six speed automatic transmission.
>. Front wheel drive for 3.2, all wheel drive for T6.
>. Standard side impact and side curtain airbags.
>. Standard electronic stability system.
>. Standard antilock brakes with hydraulic brake assist.
>. Standard City Safety accident avoidance system.
>. Optional adaptive cruise control.
>. Optional lane departure warning system.

On base models, you instead get a 240 hp straight six and front wheel drive. This is a combination we actually like for its straightforward presentation as a well equipped luxury car, and as that, it’s surprisingly nimble, maneuverable, and economical. In any of its forms, what the S80 really does well even against recently updated models like the BMW 5 Series or Audi A6 is on the open road. With a ride that’s firm yet comfortable, a very quiet interior, superb seats, and a combination of confident tracking and strong passing power, and the S80 is the way to do long road trips in style.
