A sportier suspension setup, sharper steering, and beefier brakes would round out the mechanical changes. The cabin of the Cruze SS would likely include leather seating, unique badges and stitching, and the ubiquitous metal-finished gas, clutch and brake pedals. If it’s headed for production, the Cruze Coupe SS should make its first official appearance early next year during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
In nearly every market where Chevrolet sells its Cruze sedan, it offers an optional diesel engine. North America has been an exception, but that changes for 2014. The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze arrives with GM’s next-generation 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel joined to a six-speed automatic transmission. The diesel generates 148 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and Chevy estimates the diesel-powered Cruze will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds and return 42 highway mpg.

2014 Chevrolet Cruze Interior :
Inside, the black interiors of both our test cars used a kind of woven cloth as an accent on the dash and door panels. It’s not particularly luxe, but it’s distinctive. Behind the wheel, the familiar Cruze instrument panel gives little indication that the engine isn’t conventional, aside from a few different warning lights that illuminate when the car starts. But standing outside, the familiar diesel clatter pegs the car immediately. Inside with the windows rolled up, the Cruze’s characteristically quiet cabin muffles the sound.
2014 Chevrolet Cruze Exterior :
The EPA rates it at 33 mpg combined (27 mpg city, 46 mpg highway). And while that’s the same combined rating as the Cruze Eco with its 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with six-speed manual gearbox, the new diesel compact sedan is a remarkably different car. Like many diesel cars, it overdelivers on fuel efficiency in real-world use. During a pair of 45-mile test drives last month, Green Car Reports achieved 39.2 mpg and 39.4 mpg respectively.
2014 Chevrolet Cruze Engine :
The diesel Cruze will have its work cut out, though. It targets the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, which returns 30 city mpg and 42 highway mpg. But the fuel-sipping Cruze Eco already returns numbers on par with the TDI, so GM is banking on buyers who value fuel economy and love low-end torque. We’ve briefly driven a European-spec Cruze with the diesel and were impressed with the diesel Cruze’s quiet engine operation and strong power at low rpm.
While both the Chevy and VW are powered by 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbodiesels, Chevy’s unit makes 151 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque (with up to 280 for limited amounts of time in Overboost mode) as opposed to the Jetta’s 140 hp and 236 lb-ft. The EPA has rated the Cruze diesel at 46 mpg highway, easily besting the Jetta’s 42 mpg. What GM is billing as the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid vehicle on the market is also capable of a 717-mile trip when its 15.6-gallon fuel tank is filled to the tippy-top
