Despite its controversial styling, the BMW X6 delivers unexpected performance for a car its size and weight. 2015 BMW X6 Interior
As with other recent BMW vehicles, the X6 is available in a range of trim lines, including the xLine and M Sport line. Mechanically, the X6 also gets some upgrades and new options for the 2015 model year, including its first rear-drive variant, the X6 sDrive35i. Powered by the same 300-horsepower, 300-pound-foot, 3.0-liter turbocharged in-line six-cylinder found in the all-wheel-drive X6 xDrive35i and using the same eight-speed transmission found throughout the X6 range (aside from the monstrous X6 M), its only real difference is the lack of drive to the front wheels. The X6 xDrive50i’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine gains 50 horsepower, now rated at 450 horsepower.
Aimed in a straight line, the 400-hp, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 launches the X6 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds a tick or two slower than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Infiniti FX50. Power is delivered smoothly and massively throughout the rev range. Turbo lag is absent, and the V-8 gives no audible hint that it’s being force-fed air.
Buyers can also choose the X6 xDrive50i and its 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8. Only available with all-wheel drive, the V8 is good for 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, compared to the 2014 model’s 400 hp and 450 lb-ft. BMW quotes a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.8 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than last year.
For 2015, drivers don’t have to rely solely on their right feet to control that performance. On the one hand, BMW’s Eco Pro driving mode encourages efficient driving, while a Dynamic Performance Control system finely controls the distribution of power, for better handling.
