Getting into just two of the three would be better than a lump of coal in one’s stocking come holiday time, but for me, it’d still leave things feeling sadly incomplete, gnawing from within ’til the end of days.
Getting the call from Maranello, therefore, was even more fortunate and satisfying. The 918 Spyder the only seriously green hybrid of the trio shook me up with its sophisticated menu of technologies. 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari Interior
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a F1-grade seven-speed dual-clutch transmission controlled by shift paddles mounted behind the steering wheel. With both power sources running, the LaFerrari is capable of sprinting from zero to 62 mph in less than three seconds, from zero to 124 mph in less than seven seconds and reach a top speed of over 217 mph.
The LaFerrari’s cockpit is accessed via doors that swing upwards. With all of that power, the LaFerrari is seriously quick and shockingly fast. The factory claims the LaFerrari can accelerate to 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds, and carry on to a top speed in excess of 217 mph. The LaFerrari can also one-up the McLaren P1’s claimed 0-186 mph time, with Ferrari claiming 15 seconds for the deed, and McLaren stating it takes the P1 17 seconds.
The Ferrari LaFerrari is a limited series special, where all 499 units will be built. It is also the first Ferrari to introduce hybrid technology into their cars. An electronic motor combines with a naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 engine to achieve the highest horsepower numbers, but with the lowest fuel economy among any Ferrari model at the time.
