2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class | Review, Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine. – The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is opening up a new chapter in the compact segment: markedly emotive in design, with powerful engines ranging from 80 kW (109 hp) to 155 kW (211 hp), extremely efficient with emissions from just 98 g of CO2/km and a best-in-class drag coefficient of 0.27. At the same time the new model underlines that for Mercedes-Benz, safety is not a question of price the standard specification includes, amongst other things, the radar based COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST system.

The four ringers’ idea was the better, much copied one, and Mercedes-Benz has implicitly conceded defeat with its new, third generation A-class. Mercedes’ CC (“Compact Car”) architecture, which forms the basis of the A-class and will be shared with Infiniti, is decidedly conventional. Unlike with the innovative sandwich-floored first gen A, there is no room to accommodate, say, a battery pack for hybrid or fully electric versions. (The latest Audi A3 will definitely offer a plug-in hybrid, and an electric model is still on the table.) Only the closely related B-class, which is taller and intended to be a people mover, can swallow a sizable battery pack, which will compromise interior space.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class Release Date :
The car is making its world debut in production trim at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but we first learned of the new A-Class at last year’s New York and Shanghai shows, where Benz showed it in concept form. Mercedes-Benz has teased us ever since, stating that the A-Class would be completely new, stylish, and packed with safety and high tech features normally found on more expensive models like the S-Class. The automaker’s goal, especially in America, is to hook a new, younger set of Mercedes-Benz loyalists.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class Interior and Exterior :
2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class Interior and Exterior. – “The interior of the A-Class represents a big step forward in terms of quality – both in the materials used and in the consistency of the design” says Kaul. Both objectives have been achieved with the help of a specific design idiom and through the various combination options possible with the high quality materials selected. All trim elements have been given an electroplated finish, resulting in real metal surfaces with “cool touch” effect. The work has been executed with considerable care and attention to detail, so that they appear to have been moulded in one piece.

The centre dome and console, as well as the positioning of the various elements such as the head unit, lower control panel, air conditioning operating unit, stowage compartments, rotary pushbutton and armrest, reflect the findings of the ergonomics experts at Mercedes-Benz. An extensive range of seat coverings, in terms of material (e.g. leather, fabric, ARTICO/fabric), colour combination and also geometry, provides scope for a broad range of individualisation options. Sports seats with integrated head restraints are available with all optional design and equipment lines. The sporty nature of the seats is emphasised by the opening between the upper edge of the seat backrest and the head restraint. On the back of the front seats this opening is edged with a frame in silver chrome and, in conjunction with the Light and Sight package, can also feature ambient lighting.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class Engine :
2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class Engine. – Europeans will also get to choose from a wide range of powertrain options. Three gas powered four cylinder engines with displacements ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 liters will feature direct injection and turbocharging and will output 115 hp (A180), 156 hp (A200), and 211 hp (A250). The 1.6 liter mill introduces the company’s new Camtronic system, which, according to Benz, increases fuel efficiency as “adjusting the valve lift on the intake side restricts the amount of fresh mixture used in the partial load range.”

Next up are three turbocharged four cylinder diesels: the A180 CDI, rated at 109 hp and 184 lb ft of torque, the A200 CDI, with 136 hp and 221 lb ft, and the A220, rated at 170 hp and 258 lb ft. All gas and diesel engines will come with ECO start/stop technology and will be mated to a six speed manual or seven speed dual clutch automatic. While powertrain choices for America haven’t been confirmed, we expect the new gas powered 201 hp 1.8 liter turbo four recently introduced in the C250 to serve as the base engine.

The A200 likewise is available in diesel and petrol flavors. The latter has a 154 hp version of the 1.6 liter four. The A200 CDI uses a 134 hp, 1.8 liter OM651 that’s smooth and flexible, delivering its 221 lb-ft from 1600 to 3000 rpm. It stormed up mountain roads with ease, rarely requiring a downshift below third gear. Only when you start to crest 100 mph does this midrange diesel lose steam. For European customers who plan to explore triple digit territory with regularity, the A220 CDI and its 168 hp, 2.1 liter producing 258 lb-ft of torque is the better choice. This long-stroke variation of the OM651 is less polished and noisier than the 1.8, but those sins are sacrifices gladly made for the extra grunt. And even more twist is around the corner. A twin turbo 2.1 diesel with roughly 200 hp and torque well over 300 lb-ft is a likely addition to the lineup; this engine is the one that will make it to U.S. market Mercedes. It’s rated for 190 hp and 369 lb-ft in the GLK250 BlueTec that’s due here early next year. Source: netcarshow.com, autocarrelease.com.
